Great American Story Teller
Dedicated to preserving the stories of everyday life.
We've all come across people like this. It's the retired fellow at the local diner having coffee with his friends, entertaining everyone within earshot about local lore. Or perhaps it's the off-duty fireman at the local hardware store delivering his daily string of humorous anecdotes. Or maybe it's your next door neighbor drawing you into their world of mystery and intrigue, shaking your beliefs to their core.
No matter their age, race, occupation, sex, or income, they all hold one thing in common...
These people tell great stories!
They captivate us with tales of history, travel adventure, mysterious events, great sports moments and even a few good jokes. Yet they probably have careers that require no public speaking engagements, no stand-up comedy acts and no board room presentations. These people are natural-born storytellers, complete with their own native accents, mannerisms and local slang.
In this day and age, we have plenty of ways to entertain our minds. Within minutes, we can watch most any movie or radio program of our choosing, listen to most any piece of music, view virtual museums of art or read most any popular book or magazine. All pre-programmed to dazzle us with flashy special effects, shock, wow and over-colored glossy pages. It's not that all the glitter is bad, it's more about what all it has replaced. When was the last time you slowed down enough to listen to the person across the room?
Famous storyteller collections from Garrison Keillor, Bill Cosby, Justin Wilson, Andy Griffith or Larry the Cable Guy this is not. But even they would appreciate the yarns that people such as Kentucky Colonel Creekwalker Leatherberry spin within these pages.
These people, along with their stories and how they tell them, are a part of American history. We're working to create a collection of audio and video stories about who we are and our experiences along the way, as told by regular people.
Please help us locate these special storytellers and encourage them to share with us. Together we can preserve America's story telling heritage.
